We have been very fortunate in finding Altberg boots when looking for something better than the standard 'run of the mill' types available at most motorcycle shops. We had found out the hard way that flash looking boots with all sorts of fancy 'protectors' don't mean a thing when it comes to proper foot protection. To make proper boots which will protect your feet and yet allow full movement you first have to know how the human feet works and what forces are put upon them during a fall. Altberg is a small English bootmaker which built a name for itself in high quality hiking boots. The knowledge they have about feet is on a podiatrist scale... and with that knowledge plus their traditional skills in proper boot making, they make the best boots possible.
As the owner and founder of the company is a keen motorcyclists, making motorcycle boots seems a simple and logical step. Good hiking boots already have a lot of the qualities needed for motorcycle boots, or so it seems to the untrained eye. In reality it wasn't that simple. They studied motorcycle crashes to find out what happens to a motorcyclists' feet when things do go pear shaped. They then started working on a new philosophy in the motorcycle boots industry, setting the workings of the foot, its limitations and the stresses put upon them as the basis of a new type of boot. A boot which has all the excellent qualities of their renowned hiking boots, but with the added protection needed by motorcyclists.
We have taken Altberg boots on our trip around the world and absolutely love them! They are by far the best we've ever seen. We're not just saying that because we sell them, in fact we have asked Altberg if we were allowed to sell them as we believe good footwear is vital. As much as we like to see anyone going on a trip of a lifetime, or even just having a blast on a well earned holiday, we first of all like to see you come back safe! You can see where we have taken our boots and how lucky Mike has been to have them when his foot became trapped under pannier when his bike went down in Norway... or when his foot slammed into a boulder in Kazakhstan (which we even have on video!). The rebound of that hit made his foot slam into the aluminium fuel bottle so hard that it destroyed the fuel bottle... while he never felt a thing. A small bike with steel racks slammed on my shin in Cambodia. The racks hit my shin hard at the weakest point of the shin bone, it would have been broken for sure had I not been wearing Altberg boots. But it's not just about protection. Being able to stand on the pegs for 12 hours because of impossible 'roads' or simply enjoying waterproof boots which are so comfortable that we can wear them all day and every day is a bonus often overlooked.
Try Altberg boots, you won't be disappointed.
